We Are Not LeBron

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

If you could participate with one person in the world who would it be? Would it be your favorite movie star, athlete, singer, maybe pastor?

If you’re like me and love sports (maybe too much), your person is probably an athlete. Let’s just say it’s LeBron. Imagine for a moment that you got to be a deep bench player on LeBron’s team.

How would you play? Would you “half butt” it, or would you give it your all?

Of course, you would play your hardest. You would give it your all because you got to play with arguably the best player of all time.

What if I told you, you are playing with a greater person with a higher mission? It’s true!

If you serve, you are part of God’s plan for humanity.

7 So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. 9 For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.

– 1 Corinthians 3: 7-9

God calls us his co-workers in his plan. You and I get to be a part of the greatest thing that will ever happen.

How does this change things?

The next time you serve, whether that be at student ministry, as an usher, or if you are a vocational ministry staff member, this is your “floor time.”

You are now off the bench, and playing in the game. Do not take this lightly, what you do matters more than you could possibly know.

Don’t waste your time. You and I have too great of a mission to play this thing any less than 100%.

Jesus picked you, for the very position you are in now. He wanted you, yes you. No one else can do exactly what you can. And that is why you are where you are.

Go hard! And when it is all said and done, you will be able to be proud of yourself, you will hear well done good and faithful servant.

And on that day, there will be no better words to hear.
